Book Interior Design Earns IBPA Gold Award

I’m excited to announce that Urban Fly Fishing Dallas/Fort Worth, a book we designed last year for Imbrifex Books, took home the Gold Award—the top prize for Book Interior Design—at this year’s Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) Awards. The event was held on Friday, May 15, 2026 in Portland, Oregon.

Here is an excerpt about the design from an earlier post about the book:

“The book contains hundreds of stunning photographs, technical specifications on gear, and detailed maps showing recommended waterways and access points. It even includes suggested local spots to grab lunch, and tunes to listen to while fishing (maybe “Turtle Blues” by Janis Joplin while fishing in Turtle Creek?).

For this book, we updated the existing series design to be more current and better structured, presenting a clearer balance between the text, photography, and other data elements.”

Special thanks to author and photographer Greg DeMars for providing the great images that were the centerpiece of the design, and to Mark Sedenquist and his team at Imbrifex for being so great to work with.

“The IBPA Book Awards (formerly the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards) are regarded as one of the highest national honors for independent publishers since 1985”

We are thrilled that the updated design was received so well by the judges.

In addition to Imbrifex, we design books for The Quarto Group, The Urban Land Institute, and many other publishers and organizations. We are always looking to partner with authors, publishers, and organizations on new book and ebook projects. If you're planning a publication, we'd love to discuss how thoughtful design can help bring your content to life. Please explore our extensive book design portfolio, and feel free to reach out to discuss your upcoming book project.
